EARTHQUAKE IN SICHUAN PROVINCE, CHINA

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Jiuzhaigou, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Southwest Sichuan Province at 9.19 pm on 8 August 2017. As of 11.00 am on 9 August 2017, it was reported that at least 13 people have lost their lives and 175 were injured.

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Kunming has contacted all relevant authorities and no casualties involving Malaysians was reported so far. The authorities of Sichuan Province are handling the situation by taking all necessary measures to assist the affected victims.

Wisma Putra through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Kunming are closely monitoring the situation. The Consulate General is also in close contact with the authorities of Sichuan Province for the latest updates on this incident.
