MALAYSIA CONFIDENT PRE-DEPARTURE OF HAJ PILGRIM PROGRAMME FULLY IMPLEMENTED NEXT YEAR

SEPANG, Malaysia — Malaysia is confident that the haj pilgrim pre-departure programme at the departure halls begun this year will be fully implemented in the next haj season.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom said he was confident the implementation of the programme would be continued in Malaysia as the Saudi Arabian government was aware of Malaysia’s capabilities and the transport and technological infrastructure development here.

Our system is compatible with that used in Saudi Arabia and, if it is continued, it will facilitate many matters in both countries, he told reporters after sending off the last group of 475 pilgrims to leave for the Holy Land at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here today.

Implemented since last Thursday involving 112 haj flights, the pioneer programme enabled the pilgrims to be given pre-departure clearance at KLIA before their actual departure and they need not go through passport clearance at the Saudi Arabian airports.

Through this system, the pilgrims will go through immigration clearance by Saudi Arabian immigration officials before they board the plane.

Jamil Khir said he hoped that the programme could also be used to help people going for the umrah.
