MALAYSIA: 20 ILLEGALS DETAINED TRYING TO EXIT COUNTRY VIA ILLEGAL ROUTE

KOTA TINGGI, Johor state, Indonesia — Region Two Marine Police detained 20 Indonesian illegal immigrants attempting to smuggle out of the country via illegal routes in Bandar Penawar, near Kota Tinggi, early today.

Its commander ACP Paul Khiu Khon Chiang said the illegals were detained in four separate raids from 2 am until 3 am in their hideouts in the forest along the coast of Pulau Hijau in Bandar Penawar.

Checks found that all the men, aged between 20 and 50, hid in the forest area since three days ago. They are believed to be managed by certain people while waiting for a boat to bring them to their homeland through an uncharted route, he said in a statement here today.

Khiu said all the illegal immigrants were now detained under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Admendment 2002) for further investigation.
