JKR Experts Arrive To Begin Study Of Landslide-Hit Areas
MIRI: Public Works Department (JKR) is carrying out a thorough and detailed study of the condition of the ground at Kampung Lereng Bukit and its surrounding areas, including Canada Hill.
A team of experts from its Slope Engineering Branch, led by geoscience officer Zaidi Daud, arrived here yesterday and headed to the landslide zone to study and address the issue.
Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Miri head Joseph Unyo said NREB is using drones to survey the affected area to establish the level of danger.
From what we monitor, the area involves a 90-degree slope. The worry is that if it rains, a larger area might be affected, he said yesterday.
Meanwhile, Eric Chin, who is special assistant to Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, thanked agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Civil Defence Force (APM), Welfare Department, Miri Resident Office and District Office, Petronas, JKR and Geoscience Malaysia for helping the landslide victims and assessing the landslide problem.
