NNA – Emirates will no longer allow its planes to fly over Iraq due to concerns about the dangers posed by Islamic militants, reported The Telegraph.

Sir Tim Clark, chief executive of the airline, announced planes would be re-routed along other flight paths to avoid becoming targets for surface-to-air missiles from fighters in the troubled country.

The Emirates boss believes other airlines will follow suit after the loss of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 over the Ukraine.

He told The Times: “The horrors that this created was a kick in the solar plexus for all of us. Nevertheless having got through it we must take stock and deal with it.”

Mr Clark called for government intelligence agencies to offer more advice about risky airspace and said airlines were planning to share information about flight paths causing concern.
