CONFAB ON QUDS DAY ZARIA KILLINGS HOLDS IN ABUJA (Daily Trust (Nigeria))

An international conference to commemorate the killing of 34 pro-Palestinian protesters by the military in Zaria, Kaduna State in July 25 last year would hold on Sunday in Abuja.

The conference is convoked by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the guardianship of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, whose three undergraduate sons were among those killed during the Quds day peaceful procession.

A statement by the confab publicity committee signed by Ibrahim Usman said the event is a follow up to the series of events to mark the incident in Zaria.

Scholars, rights campaigners, activists from Nigeria and abroad are expected to make various presentations at the conference.

Chief Imam of Washington DC, USA, Imam Muhammad Al-Asi will deliver a paper on Al-Quds: Historical perspective and the significance of marking the international Quds day.

Those to speak on the topic: From Al-Quds to Zaria: A melting pot of rights violation, veil of bias and conspiracy of silence include Prof. Chidi Odinkalu of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Barrister Festus Okoye of Network for Justice, Massoud Shadjareh of the Islamic Human Rights Commission, London; Sheikh Ramadhan Abdullah (Iraq), Syed Jawad Mousawi (Iran), Mohideen Abdulkadir (Malaysia), Professor Dahiru Yahaya of Bayero University, Kano.

Others are activist and columnist Hajiya Bilkisu, Professor Maigandi Muhammed of Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto; Dr Abdullahi Danladi and Dr Shuaibu Musa of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.
