K1M Kanowit Commends Info Dept For Initiatives

KANOWIT: The Kanowit Information Department has been commended for its efforts in organising programmes and activities that expose the local community to many ways and ideas to generate income.

Chairman of 1Malaysia Community (K1M) Kanowit, Tuai Rumah Benjamin Angki Kaboy said the department organised an oyster mushroom farming programme for Kanowit 1Malaysia Community (K1M) members in August last year.

So far I heard some members are progressing well in their oyster mushroom venture including K1M Nanga Bob chairman Dang Enjat who has started his own mushroom farm.

That is one good example to follow. We at K1M Rantau Kemiding have also started our own farm.

The market for oyster mushrooms in Kanowit is good and we cannot cater to the demand most of the time because the people believe it is nutritious, he said in his welcoming speech during the closing of the ‘Hydroponic Farming Workshop’ organised by the department and K1M Kanowit on Saturday.

Angki thanked the Kanowit Information Department headed by Donny Minggu Ling for always sharing with the local community useful information, especially on ways to improve income.

On the workshop, he said that all 33 participants from eight K1Ms in Kanowit had showed high enthusiasm throughout the one-day activity held in Rantau Kemiding.

All the participants are keen to know hydroponic farming techniques. They asked a lot of questions to the facilitators from Mas Gading Community College.

I hope the participants not only will share with others in their respective longhouses the knowledge obtained from the workshop but they must show commitment if they wish to venture into hydroponic farming after this, he said.

Meanwhile, Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang who officiated at the closing of the workshop encouraged the participants to try the farming method as a way to improve their income.

He said hydroponic farming does not cost much to start and it could be done at home.

He also thanked Kanowit Information Department for introducing the farming method to the local community.
