June 15 date for employer in maid murder, abuse cases

GEORGE TOWN: A 42-year-old woman who is charged with murdering her Indonesian maid and hurting her Cambodian maid will have her cases mentioned again by two courts here on June 15.

Sessions judge Irwan Suainbon and magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid both fixed the new date pending the chemist report for the respective charges when the cases came up for mention yesterday.

Chan Lay Lee was charged on March 10 with murdering Jubaedah, 38, between 11am and 4.45pm at her house in Lebuhraya Jelutong here on Feb 25.

The offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. No plea was recorded.

On that same day, she claimed trial to voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Cambodian maid Anad, 22, with an iron rod between July last year and Feb 25 this year at about 11am at the same place.

The charge under Section 326 of the Penal Code is punishable with a jail term of up to 20 years and fine, or whipping.
