Ministry Designing Framework To Prepare Kids For Digital Era

KUCHING: The Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development is designing a framework to prepare young children to face the digital era.

Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said the programme comes under children development.

This is to ensure that children can use gadgets and information technology well and in a balanced manner. If not controlled, will be misused and bring misfortune to them, she told a press conference for a workshop to design the framework for childhood development and an implementation strategy yesterday.

Exposure to gadgets will make them addicted to online games and it affects their social and communication skills among family members and community. It has happened in other developed countries and will ruin their futures.

Under the Children’s Act 2001, children are those under the age of 18. However, the ministry is responsible for the development of those aged six and below before they enter formal education.

Guidelines for the workshop included the seven domains of early childhood development, nine multiple intelligences, nine future ready skills, three skills need to be mastered for the 21st century, and child well-being index based on the national education philosophy.

We want to see childhood development not just in the Sarawak context but also in a country context. To create children in a global world and to be global citizens, added Fatimah.
