MIER FORECASTS 2017 GDP GROWTH OF 4.8 PCT FOR MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR, — The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) has forecast gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 4.8 this year for Malaysia, an upward revision of a 0.3 percentage point from the projection in April .

Executive Director Dr Zakariah Abdul Rashid said the forecast was driven primarily by domestic demand and reinforced by stronger external demand.

“Domestic demand is expected to grow by 4.6 per cent and private consumption at six per cent. The growth in goods and services exports, as well as imports this year, are maintained at 1.8 per cent and 1.5 per cent respectively ,” he told reporters at the 32nd National Economic Briefing here.
