14 MALAYSIANS PARTICIPATE IN INDIA-ASEAN YOUTH SUMMIT

NEW DELHI, India — A five-day youth summit celebrating 25 years of India-ASEAN diplomatic engagement started in Bhopal in central India on Monday.

Fourteen Malaysians are participating in the event.

Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-India dialogue partnership, the summit under the theme of “Shared Values, Common Destiny” has been organised by India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the India Foundation think-thank.

The cultural event has attracted about 200 delegates from government, business and civil society sectors, including representatives of the Asean Youth Organisation.

India sees the event as promoting goodwill and understanding among promising youth leaders the participating nations.

ASEAN diplomats, senior Indian government officials, think-tanks, politicians, members of parliament and Madhya Pradesh state ministers were present in Bhopal, 760 kilometres from Delhi.

India’s growing engagement with ASEAN is part of its “Act East” policy doctrine that seeks to develop deeper political, security, trade and cultural links with Southeast Asia.
