KUALA LUMPUR Over 40 jewellery brands from 14 countries are set to ‘shine’ at the Jewellery Asia 2017 exhibition, held from Tuesday to Sept 7, at Shangri-La Hotel here.

Alun Jones, General Manager of UBM MES, the organiser of the exhibition, said the inaugural event aimed to enhance Malaysia’s reputation as a global standard jewellery trading centre, besides promoting the country as a new hub for jewellery traders and private buyers worldwide.

He said the high profile international event also could be an ideal platform for local jewellers to explore and collaborate at the international level, with the participation of a selection of Malaysia’s leading jewellers and finest designers at the exhibition.

“The market for fine jewellery is growing fast, with Malaysia ranking second in the world in terms of market growth. We have seen the market here grow by an incredible 99 per cent since 2012, and this fact together with our extensive experience in the industry, makes the introduction of Jewellery Asia 2017 extremely timely,” he told reporters during the exhibition preview here, Tuesday.

UBM MES is the merger between United Business Media (M) Sdn Bhd and Malaysian Exhibition Services Sdn Bhd.

Among the notable international brands participating in the event are Aenea Jewellery from Austria, Autore South Sea Pearls (Australia), Sutra Jewels (United States) and Heinz Mayer (Germany).

“We have carefully designed the show to ensure that the majority of the brands featured at Jewellery Asia are not available in Malaysia high street retail, which will, for sure, heighten the interest of the visitors who can see, touch and buy the products in the exhibition, he said.

Visitors are required to present their Malaysian identification cards or international passports at the registration counter for free admission from 12 pm to 8 pm.
