Spectators Enjoy Best View Of Regatta Races From Darul Hana Bridge

KUCHING: The newly-opened Darul Hana Bridge serves as the perfect vantage point for spectators to watch the races in this year’s Sarawak Regatta.

People lined up along the 335m S-shaped pedestrian bridge across the Sarawak River yesterday, eyeing for good spots to watch the 20-paddler and 30-paddler races.

There was hardly any vacant space available anywhere at both Kuching Waterfront and the Boyan-Gersik-Sourabaya Riverfront both packed with people who came in droves, despite the gloomy weather.

The annual regatta, which kicked off on Friday last week, concludes today where the coveted ‘Piala Raja Sungai’ (River King Trophy) would be given away to the overall champion.

Many activities are also held as part of activities during the regatta including a bazaar, exhibitions, the ‘Brooke Swim’ and the duck-catching challenge.

It is learnt that for this year’s edition, the competing teams are from Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Australia.
