MALAYSIAN ROHINGYA COUNCIL DETERMINED TO RESOLVE ROHINGYA PROBLEM

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — The Malaysian Rohingya Council (MRM) is determined to resolve problem faced by the Rohingya community in the country.

MRM Honorary Chairman, Mohd Nazri Sahat said Malaysia was a highly regarded nation by the international community on the Rohingya issue, but if no steps were taken to safeguard the welfare of the ethnic group in this country, it will cause problems in the future.

“In Malaysia, there are more than 150,000 Rohingya who fled here and only 57,000 have refugee cards issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees he told a press conference here yesterday.

The MRM, set up on Dec 31, will hold a Rohingya convention on Jan 20 at Jalan Semarak and more than 200 Rohingya representatives are expected to attend.

Under MRM, there are 14 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) including NGOs from Indonesia, , Africa and Pakistan.
