MALAYSIA WILL SEND LARGE TEAM TO AUSTRALIA’S GOLD COAST COMMONWEALTH GAMES
KUALA LUMPUR, — Malaysia is set to send the biggest contingent comprising 99 male and 76 female athletes at the upcoming 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia this April.
Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tuanku Imran Tuanku Jafar, however revealed that they are still waiting the list of athletes from a few sports which do not qualify on merit to the games.
“I think this is the biggest contingent that we would send since most of the sports in Gold Coast involve team sports.
“I’m very glad that our athletes especially in the optional sports have shown improvement by qualifying on merit rather than relying on core sports such as athletics and swimming,” Tunku Imran told reporters after chairing the OCM Selection Committee.
On the medal haul by the Malaysian contingent , Tunku Imran is confident that athletes in sports such as squash, badminton and track cycling would put up a good show.
