More Than 3,000 Expected At ‘Pesta Penguman Asen Telang Usan’

LONG LAMA (Baram): More than 3,000 locals including visitors are expected to converge on the quaint town of Long Lama for the inaugural ‘Pesta Penguman Asen Telang Usan’ (Telang Usan Traditional Food Festival) to be held on Jan 27.

The festival is organised by Telang Usan District Office in collaboration with more than 11 villages of the Orang Ulu community including Penans in the interior of Baram.

The festival will feature traditional food of the Orang Ulu including the Penan community, with durians of various varieties as the main attraction, the festival advisor Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau disclosed after the organising committee meeting yesterday.

As for now, 11 villages have confirmed their participation and selling durians. The visitors will be able to enjoy as much as they could as the price will be reasonable. Coupons will be available this week, Dennis said after the meeting chaired by Telang Usan district officer Baru Tai.

The festival will be held as an annual event to highlight and open up Telang Usan and stimulate local economy. We hope this festival will grow and attract big number of visitors, similar to the response to Pesta Sukan Air Long Lama, he added.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is expected to grace the festival.

Meanwhile, there will be ‘Lombak Rakyat’ or folks games to be held on Jan 26 as a prelude to the festival, followed by stage show featuring Iban recording artiste Ricky El and cultural performance by various ethnic groups.
