Govt Assures Longhouse Fire Victims Of Continuous Assistance

BINTULU: Residents of Rumah Nyipa, left homeless after a fire destroyed their longhouse at Nanga Pandan Sebauh near here on Sunday night, continue to receive contributions from various agencies.

Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi visited the longhouse villagers yesterday, where he discussed with the 265 victims from 36 families the types of assistance to be given.

He later announced RM36,000 worth of assistance be given to the victims � translating into each household receiving RM1,000.

He also allocated another RM30,000 slated for rebuilding the Tabika Kemas (pre-school) at the longhouse, which also went up in smoke last Sunday.

I hope with this assistance, it would ease the burden of the 36 affected families, said Dr Rundi, who is Kemena assemblyman, assuring the villagers that continuous assistance would be provided by the government.

The handover of cheques was witnessed by Bintulu Resident Jack Aman Luat, Sebauh District officer William Manggoi, Pemanca Utong Sigan and Penghulu Michael Lanyau.
