Rayong: Bigger Pesta Engkilili To Promote District To Outsiders

KUCHING: This year’s Engkilili Festival, from April 22 to 27, will be organised on a larger scale to springboard the district into a vibrant tourism destination.

Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnichal Rayong Ngipa, who chaired the organising committee meeting yesterday, said the objective of the festival is to expose the district to outsiders and promote a closer rapport amongst the people.

We also want the festival to be a platform for the people in Engkilili and Lubok Antu to promote their saleable products. This would also include the local delicacies, said Rayong to The Borneo Post yesterday.

He said throughout the five days of the festival, revellers will get the chance to be entertained by local artistes.

This will be a time for people to mingle together, thus promoting closer rapport, he added.

Among the highlights of the festival is ‘Pertandingan Kumang Pesta’ (Queen of the Festival) which will be held on April 27.

The festival’s organising committee is made up of government officers from Lubok Antu and Sri Aman as well as community leaders, penghulus and longhouse chiefs.
