MALAYSIA TO FOCUS MORE ON MODERN BUSINESS SERVICES – MINISTER MUSTAPA

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia With the services sector being the main driver of the Malaysian economy, the country will now focus more on the modern business services, said Minister of International Trade and Industry, Mustapa Mohamed.

Among the said services were legal, engineering, maintenance, repair and overhaul, consulting and architecture, he said.

“If we look at the services sector’s contribution every quarter of last year, it has grown at very robust rates.

“Going forward, we are confident that the sector will grow by over five per cent this year,” he told reporters after officiating the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) Day 2018 (MITI 2018) here today.

Mustapa said last year, the services sector accounted for 54.4 per cent of Malaysia’s gross domestic product with a total value of RM1.5 trillion.

“The sector provides 3.6 million jobs to Malaysians, mainly comprising high-income work in industries such as e-commerce, aerospace, healthcare and professional services, he added.

Organised by MITI, the one-day MITI Day 2018 offered more than 3,000 jobs with 30 multinational companies participating in the job fair.

The event aimed to bring the ministry and its nine agencies closer to the stakeholders by highlighting the relevance and impact of their services.–NNN-BERNAMA
