Therefore, it provides various initiatives, funds and training programmes such as through Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) to assist them in their work, as well as to recognise their contributions, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said.

The award given tonight shows that the state government appreciates the contribution and role of writers in continuing the traditions of cultural writing in the Malay language, he said.

According to Abang Johari, their literary contributions are significant in promoting the development of creative industries, especially in Sarawak. He said many works by local writers in various genres could be presented at the theatre stage and on the silver screen.

The work of our authors who are rich in local colours sourced from our multi-ethnic arts, literature in this country will also highlight the uniqueness, harmony and value of life among the various races, pointed out Abang Johari.

He advised that in this digital era writers’ works should be presented through digital portals.

By 2050, all walks of life will be able to access the works of our authors in Sarawak and read by literary enthusiasts at the national level and thus help popularise the works of Sarawak writers, he said.
