Contractors urged to do projects based on specification

MIRI: A contractor was caught red-handed by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin for carrying out resurfacing and tar-sealing works of a road at Tudan Desaras Phase 6 not according to specification.

The said contractor was discovered to be laying a very thin layer of tar on the road.

Lee was conducting spot checks on the road project and two other infrastructure development projects in Tudan Desaras Phase 4, Tudan Resettlement Scheme, here yesterday.

He reminded the contractor and other contractors here to carry out projects according to specification.

Anything less than that will be a waste of public money and resources because the project will be damaged or become worse in a very short time. Don’t try to make more profit by cutting corners, he said.

Lee also called the authorities such as Miri City Council (MCC) and Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to conduct regular spot checks to ensure contractors comply with the work scope.

Accompanying him during the visit were MCC engineers and several community leaders.
