FAMA endeavours to get certification for ‘gula apong’
KUCHING, Jan 13 (Bernama) � The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is now seeking to provide an international certification to further strengthen the potential of the nipah palm sugar (‘gula apong’) to enter the global market.
FAMA chairman, Ishak Ismail said the certification was important before the product could be exported and now FAMA had decided to boost ‘gula apong’ into a signature product together with 14 other products which would be launched at the national level in the middle of the year.
”Other than the European market, we will market the ‘gula apong’ of Sarawak to peninsula Malaysia, several Asian countries and the Middle East,” he told a media conference after a ceremony to launch ‘gula apong’ as a signature product of Sarawak at Medan Niaga Satok here today.
