UMK signs MoU with state government to develop zero waste policy

KOTA BHARU, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) has sealed an agreement with the state government on enhancing the use of green technology, especially in garbage disposal and use of petroleum-based plastic.

UMK vice-chancellor Prof Dr Noor Azizi Ismail said the university, through its Faculty of Bioengineering and Technology, had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kelantan Utilities Mubaraakan Sdn Bhd (KUM) for research towards developing a zero waste policy in the state.

The MoU is expected to bring huge benefit for the Kelantan people in ensuring the state is free from plastic-based garbage, he said in a statement here today.

Noor Azizi signed the MoU on behalf of UMK, while Kelantan Menteri Besar Incorporated chief executive officer Abdul Rashid Mohd Yusoff, who is also KUM executive director, signed on behalf of KUM at a ceremony in Kota Darulnaim Complex here yesterday.

Present at the ceremony was Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, who is also chairman of KUM Board of Directors.
