KUALA LUMPUR, The Malaysian National Poets Association (Pemuisi) has urged the Government to relocate en masse the Orang Asli Batek tribesmen in Kuala Koh, Gua Musang to new settlements with modern infrastructure for comfort living.

Its president, Datuk Dr Radzuan Ibrahim @ Wanrazuhar, said Pemuisi is of the view that the Batek tribe and the Orang Asli community in general have the right to modern living like other Malaysians.

It is the responsibility of the government to provide them with modern and comfortable living environment so that they, too, can have access to quality education as other Malaysians.

It is time the government also have special programmes for the Orang Asli with a focus on health, education and development as a whole, he said in a statement here, today.

The association also hopes the government will continue to create awareness among the (Orang Asli) community on the need to improve their lives in line with the progress and development taking place around them.

Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, today said that 37 members of 112 people in the Batek community, who were reported to have suffered from respiratory infection, had tested positive for measles.
