Using ferry to transport timber is not new – Perak Forestry Dept

IPOH, Ferries or pontoon boats have been used to transport forest produce including timber, crossing Tasik Bersia from the Temenggor Forest Reserve to a timber collection centre in Bersia, Gerik, since last year.

Perak Forestry Department in a statement said the ferry route was introduced since the beginning of 2018 and not after a blockade was built by Sungai Papan and Cenawing Orang Asli in the Chepam Water Reservoir, several months ago.

This year, the statement said two companies were issued licence by the state government for the exploitation of the forest which required them to use the ferry as a means of transport.

“Ikhlas Galak Sdn Bhd was issued a licence covering an area of 80 hectares at Temenggor Forest Reserve effective from Feb 1 to July 31, 2019 and the work has been completed.

“Balak Dai-Mai Sdn Bhd, involves an area of 80 hectares from May 16 to Nov 15, 2019 and currently involving 40 per cent of the area,” said the statement.
