Powerlifting World Cup in Dubai final platform to qualify for 2020 Paralympics

SEPANG, The World Para Powerlifting World Cup in Dubai next year will be the final platform for the national squad to book a slot to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

National powerlifting coach Jamil Adam said the championship that takes place in April next year would also provide athletes with an equal opportunity to prove their abilities.

“So far, the athletes with potential are Jong Yee Khie and Ma Hussein Mat Noh and now, Bonie Bunyau Gustin has also shown remarkable performance.

“For Mohd Shahmil Md Saad, we hope he can recover quickly and return to training soon.

“We will try to qualify all of them for Tokyo 2020,” he said when receiving Bonnie at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) today.

Bonnie, 19, made history after winning two gold medals at the World Para Powerlifting Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan last week.
