Distribution, installation of decoders to continue after September

KOTA KINABALU, The installation and distribution of free MYTV decoder (set top box) sets will be continued to recipients qualified to receive the service, even after the broadcasting of the myFreeview Digital TV, starting in Sept 30 in Sabah.

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Digital Creation and Distribution Platform Department deputy director Faisal Hamdi Mohammed Ghouth said that it would be quite impossible for all recipients to get the decoder set before September due to the challenging demographic factor,

”As such, we need more time to distribute and install the decoder set statewide. We will reconsider any recipient who have yet to receive the decoder set in the latest list.

”We will seek the assistance of the Sabah state government to identify those who only view analogue televisions to be entered into the list of recipients because they are the truly affected group when analogue is done away with,” he said.

He said this at a Special Briefing On The Transition From The Analogue Television Broadcast and the implementation of an awareness campaign to promote the digital television myFreeview broadcast in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan here today.

Faisal Hamdi said that 228,767 decoder sets were allocated in Sabah for the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) in Sabah bagi set Digital Television Terestrial (DTT) and DTH (Direct-To-Home).

However, 41,573 DTT units were returned to MYTV because the recipients could not be detected due to changes of addresses and accommodations, had died or had turned down the offer.
