Sultan Nazrin Shah graces opening of Sekolah Menengah Sains Tapah

TAPAH, Sultan Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah today graced the opening of Sekolah Menengah Sains Tapah (SESTA) in conjunction with his birthday celebrations here today.

Also present was Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, Raja Dihilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris A’fifullah Shah, Raja Puan Besar Perak Raja Nazhatul Shima Sultan Idris Shah and Raja Puan Muda Perak Tuanku Soraya Sultan Abdul Halim.

In his speech, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said the RM38-million Sesta was a fully-residential school on a 30-hectare piece of land, equipped with five triple-storey buildings, 30 classrooms, two hostel blocks, hall and other basic facilities.

Construction work on the school began on Oct 12, 2006 and it was completed on Aug 29, 2009, and handed over to the Education Ministry on Oct 23, 2009, he said.

The text of his speech was read out by Education Deputy Director-General of Education (Education Operations) Dr Ahmad Rafee Che Kassim.

He said Sesta which was located in Jalan Pahang, about 4.5 kilometres from Tapah, and in the Batang Padang district, began receiving educators on Feb 1, 2010, while student intake began from April 14, 2010.

At present, Sesta had 755 students, 66 students and 20 support staff.

In the 10 years it was set up, the school has achieved numerous successes such as the Gold Special Award in the Japan Design and Invention Expo 2019, the Gold Award in the International Conference of Young Scientist 2019, and the Gold Award in the Eighth Malaysia International Young Inventors Olympiad.
