Mat Yo ready to step in role against Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 With the absence of top striker Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad due to a one-match suspension, another lethal national striker, Norshahrul Idlan Talaha is ready to step into his role when the national squad host Indonesia in the second round of the World Cup 2022 /Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers at the National Stadium, in Bukit Jalil tomorrow night.

The Pahang forward who is fondly called Mat Yo, revealed that he is prepared to deliver when possible in the match and brightens Malaysia’s hopes of clinching an automatic ticket to the finals of the Asian Cup 2023 in China.

Muhammad Syafiq confirmed he would be missing the Indonesian match after picking up his second yellow card in the qualifying round matches against Vietnam and Thailand.

“For me, the morale of the squad is quite good after we defeated Tajikistan (friendly match) and Thailand (qualifying round), it is just that we should not become complacent tomorrow evening.

Indonesia is one of the strong teams which we should not take lightly and we need to keep our focus in the entire match to survive, he said when met by reporters during the squad training session at the venue today.

Commenting further, the Besut boy stressed that that Harimau Malaya should not let complacence creep in as the visitors would be seeking to avenge their 2-3 loss in the opening Group G match in Jakarta on Sept 5.
