JBPM to regulate volunteer fire brigade

The Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS) will be placed under the jurisdiction of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) to ensure its better service in the future.

JBPM director-general Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid said this would make PBS a team registered under the Fire Services (Amendment) Act 2018 instead of the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

“JBPM is in the midst of discussing with the Attorney General’s Chamber about the matter, to include relevant regulations into the act. Once it is approved by the minister, PBS will be registered under the JBPM.

“Once PBS is under the JBPM, its standard operating procedure will be redrafted in accordance with the department’s SOP,” he told a press conference after the Selangor JBPM Excellence Service Award here today.

Mohammad Hamdan said the new regulation was also expected to cut emergency response time for JBPM.

He said it would also ensure that the welfare and wellbeing of PBS personnel are well always taken care of.

At present, there are 502 PBS nationwide with a total of 30,000 personnel.
