RM904,840 allocation to further develop Terengganu’s fisheries Industry

The Fisheries Department today distributed an allocation of RM904,840 to eight fisheries communities (myKP) and 45 individuals involved in the aquaculture and fisheries industries in Terengganu.

Terengganu Fisheries Department director Zawawi Ali said of the total allocation, eight myKPs received RM247,800; eight fish hatchery entrepreneurs received RM120,390; six ornamental fish breeders (RM44,000) and 20 recipients received aquaculture inputs such as tanks, water pumps, air pumps, fish seed and feed (RM209,150).

In addition, we also provided incentive assistance amounting to RM283,500 under good agricultural practice (myGAP) to 11 fish breeders in Kampung Air Tawar, Besut. They received assistance including netlon nets, food storages, chemicals and quarantine tanks, he said.

He said this to reporters after the launch of the state-level Fishery Expansion Day programme, officiated by state Agriculture, Agro-based Industry and Rural Development Committee deputy chairman Hilmi Harun here today.

Eight myKPs recipients are Batu Lintang (Besut); Rhu Sepuluh (Setiu); Kampung Batin and Mengabang Telipot (Kuala Nerus); Pulau Redang and Kuala Ibai (Kuala Terengganu); Merchang (Marang) and Hulu Dungun (Dungun).

Zawawi said the fishery expansion day also served as a platform for the transfer of knowledge and technology, based on the latest research findings and information that would benefit 8,000 fishermen in the state.
