10,500 boxes of Raya-Gawai cake for Sarawak frontliners

KUCHING The Sarawak government will be distributing 10,500 boxes of cakes under the “Sumbangsih Raya-Gawai” programme to frontliners of 23 agencies involved in containing the spread of COVID-19 infection in the state.

State Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the process of packing the cakes began on May 6 and so far 5,000 boxes have been prepared by Sarawak Women and Family Department (JWKS) here.

“This year we adjusted the distribution, as we are presenting the gift packs to all 23 COVID-19 frontline agencies as they have toiled day and night,” she said when attending a cake-packing session at the Wisma Wanita, Jalan Sultan Tengah, Petra Jaya, today.

Fatimah said apart from security and enforcement agency personnel, the contribution would also be distributed to personnel of local authorities, Health Ministry, Health Department, quarantine centres, screening centres and division disaster committees.

Other recipients included the Sarawak Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry staff, media practitioners as well as homeless people, and the distribution is expected to be sent out before Hari Raya on May 24, she said.

She added that there are 2,500 more boxes this year compared to 2019 and the cakes are supplied by the Sarawak Kek Lapis Entrepreneurs Association, women wing of Sarawak Bumiputra Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce (Dewanita), Persekutuan Perkumpulan Wanita Sarawak and JWKS recreational club.
