Pay income tithe through salary deductions via PZB scheme – MAIWP

KUALA LUMPUR The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has started a campaign, from Aug 1 to Nov 30, to encourage Muslims, especially private and civil service employees, to pay their income tithe (zakat pendapatan) via the Monthly Zakat Deduction (PZB) scheme.

MAIWP Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ) chief executive officer Ahmad Shukri Yusoff said the campaign was also aimed at encouraging them to increase their contributions.

“We will always move forward and provide customer-friendly zakat payment channels so that the people will have no excuse to skip payment. We will also update the system and (provide) other services from time to time,” he told a press conference today.

Elaborating on the campaign, Ahmad Shukri said that four laptops, 40 petrol cards, 40 exclusive ‘telekung’ as well as 100 shopping vouchers await lucky applicants.

Meanwhile, he said a total of RM404 million in zakat was collected from January to July this year, an increase of nine per cent compared to the RM372 million garnered during the same period last year.

The number of people paying zakat also rose by 95 per cent to 345,000 from 177,000.

He said the MAIWP-PPZ aimed to collect about RM700 million in zakat this year, up from the RM683 million collected last year.

Those interested can register for the scheme either online via or by visiting any MAIWP-PPZ counters or mobile counters in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya or through their employers.
