Civil servants must embrace the spirit of independence

LANGKAWI Civil servants must embrace the meaning and instil the spirit of independence as indications of love for the country, said Public Service Department director-general Datuk Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman.

He said the spirit of patriotism must be nurtured and should always blossom in the pyche of civil servants when carrying out their duties.

“The National Month and Wave The Jalur Gemilang celebrations are not just gimmicks but reminders of the struggle for independence.

“Independence means we are free to shape the future, we do not have to be bound or be obedient to any colonial power to determine what is good (for us) but the choice is in our own hands,” he said.

He said this to reporters after attending the National Month and Wave the Jalur Gemilang celebrations with civil servants, here today.

At the ceremony, Mohd Khairul also launched the Langkawi district level Merdeka Info On Wheels convoy flag off.

Also present were the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia’s secretary-general Datuk Suriani Ahmad and Kedah State Secretary Datuk Ammar Shaikh Mahmood Naim.

Commenting further, Mohd Khairul said he was also satisfied with the support shown by civil servants to enliven the National Month celebration by putting up the Jalur Gemilang not only at work but also at home.

“Continue the initiative of hoisting the Jalur Gemilang in your respective homes. The official vehicles of government departments can also be rigged up with the Jalur Gemilang as it can play a role (to brighten up the celebrations) when the vehicles are driven from one place to another.

“Let’s us be imbued with the spirit of the month of independence and show the essence of solidarity among civil servants to defend our freedom,” he said.
