Malaysian Press Night 2020 on Sept 11

KUALA LUMPUR The Malaysian Press Night 2020 (MWM2020) will be held here on Sept 11, in full compliance with the COVID-19 standard operating procedure (SOP).

MWM2020 chairman and Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) chief executive officer Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya said the annual journalism awards ceremony would comply with the SOP set by the National Security Council (MKN) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).

“The number of guests is limited to 320 and each table will only accommodate five people in compliance with one-metre physical distancing rule.

“The wearing of face masks is also mandatory, in addition to body temperature scanning,” he said when addressing the MWM2020 Contributors’ Celebration çeremony here today.

This year, a total of 27 corporate bodies and government agencies have come forward to contribute to MWM2020, which has been delayed by five months because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chamil said the MPI Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards 2019, which will be given out at MWM2020, had received 306 entries, with a total of 522 works to be judged for the 20 categories offered.

“This is an increase of 38 entries over the 268 received in 2018. This year we are replacing the Best News Portal Report with the Best Multimedia Journalism category,” he said.

A total of 32 media organisations comprising the print media, broadcast media, radio and portals have submitted entries for the awards ceremony.

He said the Excellent Photo Journalism category received the highest number of entries with 50 while the Best Editorial Cartoon category was the lowest with only four entries.
