Penang state assembly to sit as scheduled, with limited attendance

The Penang state assembly sitting will proceed as scheduled but the number of attendees including heads of departments will be limited following the spread of COVID-19.

Penang state assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang said in order to comply with the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), the assembly would be conducted in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) set by the Malaysian National Security Council and the Health Ministry.

He said the sitting would be conducted with COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures as advised by the Penang State Health Department.

“Disinfection of surfaces and critical places will be performed before the sitting, screenings and body temperature monitoring will be performed on all present and physical distancing of at least one metre will be implemented,” he said in a statement here today.

Law said transparent barriers have been installed between the seats of members.

He said, the media was not advised to attend to cover instead should follow the sitting which would be broadcast live through the official website of the assembly.

The assembly session scheduled to start on Monday until Oct 19 will be held at the Dewan Sri Pinang as the Penang state assembly building on Light Street is still undergoing restoration work.
