— A local pregnant woman was among 15 individuals arrested in three raids conducted at a luxury condominium here today, after they were suspected of being involved in an online gambling syndicate.
Subang Jaya District Police chief Abd Khalid Othman said in the raids which began at 10 am, all the individuals, including four Indonesian women aged between 20 and 27, were engrossed in handling gambling bets before realising the presence of the police.
“In the raid on the first condominium unit, we arrested a local married couple – the wife being pregnant – as well as four other individuals.
“The arrest led the raid team to the second and third units located in different blocks of the same condominium, resulting in the arrests of another six and three individuals, respectively,” he said when met at the raid location.
He said all the houses raided had various computer equipment used for monitoring and betting transactions. Also seized in the operation were 20 computers and dozens of mobile phones believed to be used in the online gambling activities.
The investigation found that the employees involved were paid between RM1,000 to RM1,800 a month, without ruling out the fact that they could be receiving commissions on the betting revenue. According to him, the syndicate also makes a profit of up to RM200,000 a month.
