Man feared drowned after jumping into Sungai Sembrong

A man, in his 30s, is missing and feared drowned after jumping into Sungai Sembrong in Jalan Mersing, near Kluang this evening.

He was earlier believed to have been trying to evade a drug arrest, Kluang Fire and Rescue Station chief Senior Superintendent Akob Sidek said.

He said a distress call on the incident was received at 4.56 pm and two engines with nine firemen rushed to the scene.

“The firemen used the surface searching technique but failed to locate the victim,” he said in a statement here tonight.

Akob said the search and rescue (SAR) operation was called off at 7 pm today and will resume at 8.30 am tomorrow.
