Sibu MCO: 8,320 people to receive food aid beginning Sunday

A total of 8,320 people from the Nangka state constituency affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO) implementation in Sibu Division, will receive food assistance from the state government, beginning this Sunday.

Sarawak Assistant Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said nine stations would be opened for the food aid distribution at Lakis (Sibu Islamic Welfare Trust Board) hall, Dewan MMB (Melayu Melanau Bersatu) and Kampung Bahagia Jaya Teku old mosque.

Other places are Iban Teku area multipurpose hall, Kampung Jariah multipurpose hall and Dewan MUC.

He added another three more stations would be opened at the longhouse areas to channel food aid to all 34 longhouses in the Nangka constituency.

Annuar said the distribution process is expected to end this Tuesday while the LAKIS hall station will be extended to enable those who did not receive the food assistance, to take it there.

“We will help everyone regardless of the political background and agenda,” he said in a press conference on the food assistance programme here today.

Annuar said the recipients can check their respective names at the nine stations from 8 am to 4.30 pm, from Sunday to Tuesday.

He added the staff at the distribution stations would enforce strict standard operating procedure (SOP) such as taking body temperatures of all recipients before they enter the stations.
