Construction work on an iron temporary bridge, costing RM400,000, across Sungai Galas to link Kampung Batu Enam and Kampung Batu Lima is expected to be completed by this coming Aidilfitri.
Nenggiri State Assemblyman Ab Aziz Yusoff said the bridge was built as a temporary measure to replace a concrete bridge connecting the two villages which collapsed in July last year.
‘’Work on the iron bridge has started and is expected to be completed in two months. Hopefully it can be used by this Aidilfitri.
‘’The bridge is only a temporary measure before the government builds a permanent concrete bridge,” he told reporters here, today.
The concrete bridge across Sungai Galas connecting Kampung Batu Enam with Kampung Batu Lima collapsed due to strong currents following heavy rains in July last year.
Following which, link between the almost 1,000 residents in the two villages were cut off. However, a railroad bridge nearby provides the only link for them, but it is a risk to use the bridge.
Meanwhile, a resident Mustar Mat Salleh, 56, said the construction of the bridge was much awaited by the residents who were no longer willing to take the risk of using the railroad bridge.
Most of the villagers used the railroad bridge to market their agricultural produce to the market and risked being hit by a train when using the bridge, he added.
