Army veteran receives surprise visit from Deputy Defence Minister

KLANG, Jan 7 — An army veteran received a surprise visit by Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz at his home in Taman Bijaya, here, today.

British Army veteran, Private Abdul Aziz Mohd Amin, 83, said Ikmal Hashim, who came alone to his house exchanged pleasantries with him and his wife Nor Azian Abd Wahab, 76, before he started questioning the visitor.

“I have been informed that Ikmal Hisham will be coming to the house, yet I could not believe that the person I was chatting with was really him. He also talked about the flood situation in Kelantan and Hulu Langat, places he had inspected before and kept asking about my being in a wheelchair condition.

Ikmal Hisham’s visit was in conjunction with the ‘Cakna Veteran ATM’ (Concerned over ATM veterans) programme here, today which was later followed by the presence of senior ATM personnel including the Department of Veterans Affairs (JHEV) director-general Maj Gen Datuk Dzulkarnain Ahmad.

The programme is one of the initiatives of the Ministry of Defence through JHEV ATM in looking after the welfare of veterans affected by the floods.

According to JHEV, so far a total of 244 ATM veterans have been affected by the floods in Selangor of whom 46 are in the Klang district.

In another development, Ikmal Hashim when met said that last year, a total of 531 flood victims were assisted by the Defence Ministry with a total allocation of RM265,000.
