KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) — Four districts in Selangor, Kelantan and Johor are still affected by the floods as of 12 noon today involving 731 victims from 175 households who are still being sheltered in eight temporary relief centres (PPS).
National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) Central Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a statement today said according to Selangor State Flood Management Committee (JPBN) monitoring, the flash flood in Kampung Budiman in Petaling district has completely receded.
NADMA said the cause of the incident was due to very heavy rainfall within a short time involving a lot of rainwater from the upstream area flowing to the village areas.
“As the drainage system and existing reservoirs cannot handle the amount of rainwater, and it flows into the residential areas. A total of 50 homes is estimated to be affected in this incident and the victims were relocated to Al-Falah Mosque PPS,” said the statement.
Besides, NADMA also said the Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) yesterday issued a continuous rain warning and if significant rain continues to occur in the basins of Sungai Besut and Sungai Setiu in Terengganu, Sungai Golok (Kelantan) and Sungai Endau (Johor/Pahang), floods will occur.
NADMA said the Kelantan JPBN secretariat reported that the water level in some areas in the state have started to rise, however the situation is under control and all the affected residents are on standby and will evacuate if instructed by the authorities.
At the same time, NADMA said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob chaired the Special Coordination Meeting of the Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) virtually at 11.45 last night.
According to NADMA, the meeting discussed the latest situation of flood management since the start of the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) on Nov 7 and the states involved.
“Preliminary preparations on the part of JPBN and the District Flood Management Committees in terms of asset support, human resources and PPS facilities have been launched with assistance to affected victims mobilised,” according to the statement.
