Important projects under ECERDC to continue despite delays – Ahmad

KOTA BHARU, March 9 (Bernama) — Important projects under the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) in Kelantan are still continuing despite delays, said Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob.

He said that among the projects was the construction of the Central Spine Road (CSR), which is now known as Lingkaran Tengah Utama (LTU) Expressway, expected to be completed in 2025.

“Through today’s discussion, ECERDC stated that it will do its best to ensure that all projects implemented will be able to be completed according to schedule and that all important projects under ECERDC in the state are not suspended.

“These projects are still being implemented, but may experience delays, including the CSR highway which connects Kota Bharu and Kuala Krai,” he said.

He said this to reporters after the ECER Human Capital Development Programme Appreciation here today.

Also present were the ECERDC chief executive officer Datuk Baidzawi Che Mat and the Petronas East Coast general manager Mohamad Ahmad Shazly Ramli.

Ahmad said that the Kelantan government also paid attention to the Bukit Merbau Sports Complex development project, even though it was not under ECERDC.

“We will work to ensure that the construction of the sports complex is successfully completed, and can be used for the organisation of the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in 2026,” he said.

Meanwhile, Baidzawi said that, thus far, ECERDC has successfully attracted an investment value of RM20.5 billion, for the benefit of the people of Kelantan.

“For this year we expect ECERDC to reach a committed investment value of RM3 billion, which will enable us to provide 3,250 job opportunities.

“As of February we were able to reach RM1.1 billion in committed investment, and are confident that ECERDC will be able to achieve the investment target for this year,” he said.
