Malaysia Cyclocross Championships postponed to May

KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 (Bernama) — The inaugural Malaysia Cyclocross Championships, scheduled to be held at the D.R. Seenivasagam Recreational Park in Ipoh, Perak on March 11-12, has been postponed to May 27-28.

Malaysia Tourism Promotion Partners Association chairman Datuk Anas Yusof Sulaiman said they had to postpone the cyclocross or CX as the National Landscape Day will also be held at the same venue, resulting in them having to re-examine certain aspects of security, technical protocol and the tournament programme.

“If we continue (to hold the cyclocross), we will also have problems from the technical side because cyclocross is not like normal cycling (competitions). It needs the right distance, otherwise, we will have problems,” he told a media conference, here, today.

He said the sponsors are still committed to making it a success and the participants have also reacted positively to the postponement, adding that they are all excited that the cyclocross is being held in Malaysia for the first time.

Based on their planning, after Ipoh, the championships will move to Selangor before the international event is held in Bagan Datuk, Perak, with the dates yet to be finalised.

The total prize money for each race amounts to RM16,000 and the winner of each category will also receive a jersey. A total of 10 categories will be contested at each race.

Those interested in participating can register directly at www.sports360.my or www.bikeaway.com.my or contact the secretariat at 018-9097203.
