Parliament News in brief- Sept 23

KUALA LUMPUR — The Kedah Rubber City (KRC) project is expected to begin operations in early 2023, according to Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

He said the process of preparing the KRC site under the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) and the Kedah state government was now underway, including upgrading the water supply plant and preparation of electricity supply.

“This will enable the site to be used to build factories for downstream products in the rubber industry,” he said during the winding-up session on the motion of thanks on the royal address at the Dewan Rakyat sitting here today.

He was responding to Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PAS-Sik) who questioned whether the Rural Development Ministry will expedite preparations for KRC to help rubber tappers in the downstream segment of the industry.
