KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has announced a one-off RM300 subsidy aimed at assisting Sabah students from both public and private higher education institutions in traveling back to their hometowns during festive seasons. This initiative is specifically designed to support students studying within the state.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor revealed that this subsidy was a direct response to requests from students. The government has prioritized this appeal, demonstrating its commitment to addressing the concerns of the people.
Hajiji highlighted that students from regions such as Tawau and Sandakan, who are currently studying in Kota Kinabalu, are eligible to receive this subsidy. The funds can be utilized to cover travel expenses such as plane tickets, bus fares, or other transportation modes.
During his address at the Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Student Convention in Sembulan, Hajiji noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to foster educated huma
n capital in Sabah, which is vital for the state’s development. He also mentioned that the relevant authorities are in the process of reviewing detailed information regarding the subsidy, including the number of beneficiaries.
Reflecting on similar past initiatives, Hajiji pointed out that during the Ramadan season earlier this year, a RM600 one-off subsidy was provided to Sabah students studying in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, and Labuan. This was intended to aid their travel back home during festive periods or semester breaks, under the initiative named ‘Graduan Rindu Sabah’.
