State Gov’t Pros In Selangor Need To Be Social Media Savvy – MB

Selangor: Public relations officers of state government subsidiaries, departments, agencies, and local authorities (PBT) in Selangor have been urged to enhance their responsiveness and creativity in providing feedback and conveying government policies to the public.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari emphasized the necessity for these officers to stay updated with the evolving communication landscape, particularly the pervasive influence of social media. He highlighted the prevalence of false and negative news spreading rapidly through social media posts, urging public relations officers to adapt to this changing environment rather than oppose it.

Amirudin underscored the importance of devising effective communication strategies to highlight state policies and perspectives. These remarks were made during the Selangor Public Relations and Media Officers Retreat and Meeting (PROM) 2025 programme, held at a resort, attended by more than 60 participants, including public relations officers from various state government departments, agencies, subsidiaries, and media agencies. The event was also graced by the presence of Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin.

Moreover, Amirudin noted the significant role of mainstream media in serving as a reliable reference source, even as social media continues to dominate the communication sphere. He expressed that fostering balanced reporting is achievable when both social media and mainstream media maintain strong, cooperative relationships. The inclusion of media representatives in the programme marked a strategic effort by the state government to enhance two-way communication, particularly in disseminating information and policies to the public.
