Two KRTs In Perlis Achieve Progressive Status

KANGAR, Two of the 141 Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRT) in Perlis have earned Progressive KRT status this year for their sucessful implementation of economic initiatives, which could drive development in their respective areas.

Perlis Unity director Hanita Ahmad said the two KRTs are Taman Bukit Kayangan KRT and Kampung Rama Permatang Keriang KRT, which have implemented economic projects such as banana and corn cultivation, as well as producing personal care items like a herbal bath product.

‘Taman Bukit Kayangan KRT is also working on an onion planting initiative with the assistance of the Agriculture Department, while Kampung Rama KRT is producing a herbal bath product from lemongrass oil, which is available in supermarkets across Perlis,’ she said.

She said this to reporters after the launch of the Tunas Merdeka Parade Programme in conjunction with the state-level Malaysia Day 2024 celebrations here today.

The programme, organised by the Perlis Department of National Unity and National Integration (JPN
IN), was officiated by State Legal Advisor Yang Zaimey Yang Ghazali, who represented State Secretary Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan.

Meanwhile, Hanita said the state JPNIN has submitted the names of three more KRTs in Perlis, namely Sempering, Kampung Tengah, and Kampung Utan Buluh, for consideration as Progressive KRTs next year.

According to her, all 141 KRTs in Perlis are active in conducting community activities, making them eligible for grants from JPNIN.

On Aug 23, Bernama reported that JPNIN was set to transform 500 KRTs across the country into Progressive KRTs next year, after successfully surpassing its target of more than 116 KRTs this year.

JPNIN director-general Datuk Che Roslan Che Daud was quoted as saying that the initial target for this year was to have one Progressive KRT per district, but as of early last month (August), 121 KRTs had already achieved that status.
