YOUNGER GENERATION MUST DEFEND HUMAN VALUES ENSHRINED IN RUKUN NEGARA – EXCO

The younger generation, especially students, must carry out the responsibility of defending human values enshrined in the Rukun Negara for the sake of harmony and well-being of the people as well as for the country’s future.

Melaka Science, Innovation and Digital Communications Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan said this responsibility would be best shouldered by the younger generation as the country’s future would eventually be in their hands.

“Through the principles of the Rukun Negara that have been practised, our citizens have carried out their lives in the spirit of ‘muhibbah’ (goodwill), mutual respect and unity even though they are living in a community comprising different races and religions,” he told reporters after officiating the 2023 Melaka-level Rukun Negara Sketch Competition here today.

“Therefore, the current generation must have strong resilience through the five principles (Rukun Negara) to ensure Malaysia’s peace and progress will continue to be guaranteed.”

He said more proactive measures should be implemented to raise the level of understanding and appreciation of Rukun Negara among the young generation through various programmes and activities at schools and institutions of higher learning.

He said the establishment of the Kelab Malaysiaku at the school level was also one of the initiatives to foster and educate the spirit of identity, cooperation, independence and self-confidence among club members, through various activities, motivation and talks.

Fairul Nizam said apart from this, the organisation of the Rukun Negara Sketch Competition by the Information Department, with the cooperation of the Education Department, is the best method of teaching and learning about the Rukun Negara.

Earlier, he said 46 secondary schools had participated in the competition, with six of these schools going through to the final today.

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Ghafar Baba emerged champion, taking home RM2,000 in cash, a trophy and a certificate of appreciation. The school will represent the state at the national finals in October. SMK Ayer Molek and SMK Sungai Rambai took second and third place respectively.
