MALAYSIA:DOMESTIC PPI UP 6.4 PCT IN JUNE

KUALA LUMPUR- The Producer Price Index (PPI) for local production increased 6.4 per cent to 106.3 in June 2017 compared to the same month last year.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia, in a statement said the mining index recorded the highest increase at 10.2 per cent, followed by manufacturing (6.6 per cent), agriculture, forestry and fishing (five per cent), as well as electricity and gas (0.8 per cent). The index for water supply declined 0.7 per cent.

The PPI for local production, however, declined by 1.1 per cent in June 2017 compared to May 2017.

This was due to decreases in four sectors, namely mining (5.2 per cent), agriculture, forestry and fishing (2.3 per cent) and manufacturing (0.5 per cent) and water supply (0.3 per cent). However, electricity and gas remained unchanged.
